My new book, brings together the training and consultancy experience and know-how that I have built up over the last 20 years into a comprehensive guide for franchisees, detailing the key steps of the franchise journey from beginning to exit, with a unique focus on building business value.
At the heart of this is the Value Growth Business Model, a concept I have developed to help franchisees focus on long-term business value rather than just immediate profits. The tried and tested methodology is based on working backwards from a Core Strategic SMART Business Objective, which is an exit target value at the end of a specific number of years trading.
To help achieve this, there is a framework of four supporting SMART business objectives giving: Financial Focus, Operational and Staffing Focus, Customer Focus, and Business Development Focus. These objectives cover the crucial areas in running almost any business.
The book is packed with practical advice and insights covering a wide range of topics that are key for any franchisee. From non-financial subjects like time management, marketing, customer service, and staff appraisals to financial topics such as understanding accounts, preparing financial projections and valuing a business, this book offers a thorough understanding of what it takes to succeed in franchising.
Whilst primarily aimed at prospective and current franchisees, the book will also help franchisors as they can use it to complement their existing training programs, help train their own staff and definitely motivate and assist their franchisees.
The model assumes a sale at that stage and helps you to prepare for this, but that does not have to be your motivator. You may have other ideas. You may even want to push on for another period and grow the value further still!
